4 days in Bangkok

A very late post (sorry!) but read on below for my 4 day itinerary for my first time in Bangkok!

SOME QUICK INFO:
Flight: CEB - BKK (PR738, direct)
Hotel: Kritthai Residence (beware they have thin windows so outside noise was clear as day but location was good)

Day 1

SIAM

We arrived at our hotel at around 2:30AM. Since we knew we wouldn’t be able to sleep much, our first day was more about going around the Siam area - mostly malls and shopping.

After getting as much sleep as we can, we jumped on the train and head first to the instagrammable Cassette Coffee Bar with their pink and Wes Anderson-esque interiors. I got an iced latte and recall liking the it.

Side tip: If you need to exchange currencies, there are money exchangers at the train stations making it convenient for tourists!

After, my SiLs wanted to check Gentlewoman which was right around the corner.

For lunch, I bookmarked Inter Restaurant after seeing it having really high reviews on Google. Luckily there was no line and we were seated immediately. They live up to their reviews with simple (like home cooked vibes) and delicious Thai food. We got pad thai, tom yum soup, some veggies and fried rice.

After lunch, I wanted to check out some stationery/gift shops in the area - Stickerland & Daddy and the Muscle Academy, and Frank Garcon. Lots of very cute items for yourself or for souvenirs.

After resting for a bit, we headed to iconsiam - a rather unique mall with a riverfront. We took the boat shuttle, ate at the food court and went a little bit around the mall until closing time.

Day 2

TEMPLE TOURS

Time to do some sightseeing! We visited Wat Arun & Wat Pho (morning tour) and the Grand Palace and Emerald Buddha (afternoon tour). Don’t forget to wear something more modest for the temples or you’ll need to rent a coverup.

We started at Wat Pho - home to the Reclining Buddha, a massive 46 meter long statue. What I really liked was also the hand painted art on the walls of the temple. After Wat Pho, we crossed the river to Wat Arun. Really beautiful structures although be careful with the high and somewhat steep steps.

In general, the craftsmanship and amount of time that went into creating the temples and the structures is a wonder.

For lunch, we chose Thong Heng Lee Restaurant a restaurant close to the Grand Palace for our afternoon tour. They serve simple and very affordable Thai dishes. The mango sticky rice was good too!

Quick tip: the underground tunnel where the restrooms are located is airconditioned and has benches!

Time for our Grand Palace tour! The Grand Palace consists of several buildings and temples, one of which houses the Emerald Buddha, a sacred relic from the 15th century said to bring prosperity and protection, as well as power to whoever holds it. It is said to have made it’s way from India to Cambodia and Laos and then finally in Thailand.

The tour ended at around 3pm. We decided to go to Platinum mall and Jodd Fairs Night Market. We were tired from all the walking and luckily, there was a foot massage place at the night market! A nice way to end the day.

Day 3

CHINATOWN - EMQUARTIER - TICHUCA

Starting the day at Chinatown - ate braised duck rice for breakfast and dropping by Ba Hao Tian Mi, a dessert cafe that specializes in puddings and milk tea like drinks. They have a variety of options to choose from and we shared the black sesame, coffee, matcha, and rambutan granita.

Afterwards, we took a grab to Emquartier because they wanted to checkout the recently (then) opened Gentle Monster shop. I also wanted coffee and saw there was a Roots location there, although it took a while to find because it was tucked by the office building’s lobby.

At night, we went to Tichuca Rooftop Bar - I’m not a nightlife person but I went for the view. I recall the drinks we got tasted like medicine save for one xD I don’t know now, but they did require us to show our passports so check before going.

Day 4

CHATUCHAK MARKET

Our last day in BKK! We start with brunch at Nana Coffee Roasters in the Ari location because it was on the way to Chatuchak Market from Siam.

Highly recommend this cafe! Great coffee with a nice savory and sweet food selection. The garden was a nice little break from the city, too.

After, we head off to the must-go Chatuchak market! Ngl, it was a bit overwhelming because there’s so much stalls. The market is divided into sections/categories. There are several for clothing but my favorite was section 3 - specifically by the back where the trees are. There were lots of little coffee/drink stalls in between the clothing stalls too so you’re never far from any refreshment from the hot weather.

After spending a few hours at the market, we decided to cool off at - . I actually liked this mall best because it’s somewhat complete with mid-ranged brands and lots of food options including Krab thiasdsfl Loved that coconut

And that’s it! Hope my itinerary helps!
